On November 26th, Defence Minister Trine Bramsen awarded The Medal of the Minister of Defence to nine persons. The background for the awards are 2 rescue operations, one in Iraq and one in Denmark and - for one of the recipients - for actions related to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

The medal was instituted on December 7th, 2009. It can be awarded to Danes and foreigners for meritable actions. The medal can also be awarded Danes and foreigners for actions of valour or for being wounded, disabled or killed during such actions.

The medal is awarded by the Minister of Defence. A second award is represented by a silver oak leaf on the ribbon and a third award is represented by a gold oak leaf. The rim of the medal is engraved with the action and the year.
