The order is established in 3 classes, Distinguished Member (Commander), Honourable Member (Officer) and Member (Knight).
The order was awarded for the first time during a session in the European Parliament recently.Former German chancellor Angela Merkel, former Polish president Lech Wałęsa and the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy were appointed "Distinguished Member".Ten current or former heads of state were appointed "Honourable Member", while ten personalities in sport, culture, science, NGO and human rights etc., were appointed "Member". The most famous is probably Bono and the other members of the legendary Irish rock band U2, who have been very engaged in questions regarding human rights.
