At the latest allocation of funds from Queen Margrethe's and Prince Henrik's Foundation, Emil Chemnitz has received DKK 95.000 to prepare an anthology with biographies of Greenlandic recipients of the
Order of Dannebrog and the Dannebrog Cross of Honour. We look forward to studying the book when it is published.
Emil Chemnitz is a board member of The Greenlandic Society ('Det Grønlandske Selskab'), which was founded in 1905. The society's purpose is to provide information about and build good relations with
Greenland.
The society also awards the Rink medal, instituted by the society and awarded for the first time in 1960. The medal is named after Hinrich Johannes Rink (1819-1893), who worked in Greenland as both
a scientist and an administrator. The medal is especially awarded to individuals who have distinguished themselves through scientific research, but also to individuals who have otherwise made significant
contributions to Greenland.
A list of recipients is published on the society's website.
While waiting for the book to be published, it is possible to read about the Greenlandic Medal of Merit 'Nersornaat' in the OMSD Journal no. 36, December 2010. It contains a detailed description of the
medal - awarded in both gold and silver - and includes a list of recipients, Greenlanders as well as Danes and foreigners.
